On the afternoon of July 3, the 8th Plenum of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee was held, during which José Ramón Machado Ventura, the Central Committee’s second secretary, presented a report on the Political Bureau’s work during the first half of the year.

The document explains that the Political Bureau continues to focus on the implementation of Policy Guidelines approved by the 6th Party Congress in 2011. Policies and other topics related to the progress of implementation are discussed on weekly basis in various commissions, as are the principal economic issues facing the country.
Central Committee members were additionally informed of progress made on the country’s annual economic plan and the state budget’s current status. They approved a report on Policy Guidelines implementation for the period January-June, 2014, which will be presented to the National Assembly of People’s Power today, July 4.
