Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, yesterday afternoon, July 16, received Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, minister of Foreign Relations of the Federal Republic of Germany, who is making an official visit to the country.

In a cordial exchange, Raúl and Steinmeier emphasized the importance of the first visit to Cuba by a German foreign minister, and discussed the wide-ranging potential for developing bilateral relations, especially in the areas of trade and cooperation. The two leaders additionally addressed international issues of mutual interest.

Accompanying the distinguished guest were Peter Rudolf Scholz, Germany’s ambassador in Cuba; Jens Plötner, head of the ministerial cabinet; and Ambassador Thomas Karl Neisinger, regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the Cuban side, also participating were Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla; Gerardo Peñalver Portal, general director for bilateral relations; and René Mujica Contelar, Cuba’s ambassador to Germany.
