TERCER FRENTE, SANTIAGO DE CUBA.–Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Party Central Committee, sent fraternal greetings to the inhabitants of Tercer Frente (Third Front) municipality, congratulating them for the results that made them worthy of hosting the central act this January 1st, to mark the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

The scene of significant action during the war of liberation by the Mario Muñoz Monroy Third Front, which by order of the Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz was founded by Comandante Juan Almeida Bosque, on March 6, 1958, these hillsides of the Sierra Maestra are an example of the work of the Revolution.

Raúl’s message was conveyed by Central Committee member and Party First Secretary in the province, Lázaro Expósito Canto, who in the central remarks of the commemorative act held in the town of Cruce de los Baños, noted that municipality’s achievements are joined by those of Santiago de Cuba as a whole, which has seen favorable socio-economic developments.

He highlighted that this year comes to a close with an infant mortality rate of 3.5 per thousand live births in this province, as well as the construction of more than 5,000 homes, the materialization of almost all agricultural programs, the fulfilment of import substitution plans, and the installation of more than 2,400 new landlines.

Also presided by Central Committee member, Vice President of the Council of State and President of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power, Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, the ceremony saw the presentation of awards for the positive performance of the province’s nine municipalities.
