
– Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, alongside other leaders, attended the Banking and Financial System annual report meeting, which analyzed sector performance in 2018 and the priorities for the current year.
– Regarding the current scenario, the President noted: “There are two major priorities: the defense of the country and the economic battle. However, in the midst of threats, we continue to firmly move forward.”
– The relationship between banking services and the domestic economy should focus on financing productive chains, the active role of commercial banks, and support in the fight against the disorder surrounding cash deposits, stressed Díaz-Canel. In terms of services for the population, he said, it is necessary to simplify procedures, reduce lines, expand the banking system, and prepare people for the use of banking products.
– Irma Martínez Castrillón, minister-president of the Central Bank of Cuba, highlighted among the main lines of work for this year: improving the quality of services; continuing to implement the computerization policy, with emphasis on electronic government and commerce; as well as strengthening internal control, institutional communication, staff training and internal logistics.
