“We are at the doorstep of great victories in Our America, but we must resist forcefully, as the Cuban and Venezuelan people have. We are not staying behind a trench to be safe. No! We are on the offensive. We are surprising imperialism.” said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, during at event at the University of Computer Sciences (UCI) in Havana, where students and staff confirmed Cuba’s determination to stand by the Bolivarian Republic.
He insisted that Venezuela is confronting imperialism, which is looking to re-colonize the country, but that the people demand their sovereignty to manage their own resources and income, adding, “Socialism guarantees the people their rights.”
Prior to Arreaza’s remarks, Adán Chávez Frías, Venezuelan ambassador in Cuba, described the U.S. war against his nation, which has included media, financial, psychological, and economic attacks, all met with determination by the people, in the streets, he said, adding “Nicolás Maduro is President and he will surely continue to be, because our people will continue fighting.”
Both speakers emphasized the strategic importance of revitalizing the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP).
Students, professors and staff expressed their support to the Venezuelan leaders, calling for the unity of all peoples to defeat imperialism, and reaffirming Cuba’s unconditional solidarity with Venezuela, regardless of the circumstances that may emerge.
