On May 24, Cuban gymnast, Manrique Larduet achieved the best result for the national team in the Anadia Gymnastics World Cup, in Portugal, after winning three gold and two silver medals during the event.

Larduet took the crown in the floor exercise, vault, and horizontal bar competitions, also finishing in second in the parallel bars and rings.

He dominated in the floor routine securing 15.075 points to surpass Ziga Cilc (14.925) from Slovenia and Brazilian Caio Souza (14.750), according to the organizers.

The new star of Cuban gymnastics achieved 14.812 points in the vault, followed by Dominick Cunningham (14.625) from Britain and Vitalijs Kardasovs (14.587) from Lativa.

He was awarded 14.975 points by the judges in the horizontal bar competition, besting the scores of Francisco Barreto (14.950) and Randy Lerú (14.400) from Brazil.

In the parallel bars, the gold medal went to the experienced Colombian Jossimar Calvo (15.950), with Manrique taking second place (15,625), while bronze went to Britain’s Ashley Watson (15,250). Manrique also took silver in the still rings, with the gold going to Argentine Federico Molinari (15.275), and bronze to Tommy Ramos, (14.775) from Puerto Rico.

For her part, Cuban Marcia Videaux won gold in the women’s vault (15.112) and bronze in the uneven bars (13.425).

The two members of the Cuban team have been performing well in European competitions as part of the pre-selection squad preparing for the Pan American Games in Toronto.
