OFFICIAL VOICE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA CENTRAL COMMITTEE

PANAMÁ.— The Union of Panamanian Journalists denounced, on August 21, a U.S. government funded subversion plan against Cuba - exposed by news agency Associated Press (AP) - to destabilize the country and its government. In a statement the Union commented that AP has also revealed U.S. financing, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), of another subversion project against Cuba, known as ZunZuneo, uncovered in April 2014 and recognized by the U.S. government. The objective of the most recent subversion attempt was to negatively influence Cuban youth and turn them in to political actors against the Cuban government, employing Latin American emissaries to identify and recruit potential candidates. The illegal operation consisted of sending a group of young Venezuelans, Peruvians and Costa Ricans to Cuba posing as tourists, in order to promote rebellion amongst Cuban youth, using the pretext of a supposed AIDS and sexual health workshop to make contact with Cubans, as Argentine intellectual, Atilio Borón, denounced in Página 12. The Union’s statement read that, to the disgrace of the U.S. - self proclaimed cradle of democracy - it applies to countries which decide to build their own identity, what it energetically condemns within its own borders, relying on the NGO to accomplish these objectives. The Union of Panamanian Journalists stated finally that, the United States´ interventionist policy knows no limits and that is necessary to remain vigilant given that the seeds of subversion and destabilization can be hidden behind every supposedly social and humanitarian project.
