On March 11, 2016, Cuba celebrated the arrival of one million international visitors to the island thus far this year, a landmark achievement given that the figure was reached 11 days prior to that recorded during the same period in 2015, which saw the arrival of 3.5 million visitors that year.
With a 14.6% rise in tourist arrivals so far this year, 2016 is being marked by a growing increase in visitors from Germany, the UK, the United States, France, Italy and Argentina.
This figure was reached at a moment when tourism entities, with support from the government, different sectors of the Cuban economy and the general population, are immersed in efforts to raise the quality of services and increase hotel capacities in order to adequately respond to the growing number of visitors.
The achievement announced March 11, is also a demonstration of Cuba’s appeal as a safe, peaceful, and healthy tourist destination, as well as a result of the daily efforts and efficient work of all sector employees and collaborators.
