
In Corúa 5, in the Cajimaya neighborhood, construction has begun on a photovoltaic farm that will have a daylight generation capacity of around 20 megawatts, making it the largest of its kind currently being built in the province of Holguín.
The farm, which will be installed before the end of the year, will use technology from China and, according to the project, 42,000 solar panels will be installed on 20 of the 32 hectares that it will cover, according to information given to the press by Renier Gómez Domínguez, who is in charge of the operation on behalf of the Provincial Electricity Company.
The executive said that this is one of the first farms with these characteristics to be built in the country, with the objective of helping to reduce the consumption of imported fuels, through the use of solar energy in the generation of electricity.
With regard to the work in progress, Reinier Ferrer Sánchez, director of Engineering Works Construction Company No. 16, stated that they are focusing on removing rock material and excavating topsoil over an area of 35,000 square meters, since the first part of the investment is expected to be delivered on June 5.
