
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, thanked "all the people in Cuba who believe that science and innovation is a pillar to advance economic and social development", when he received an honorary recognition for his scientific work, at the inauguration of the 3rd International Congress on Science and Education.
The inaugural conference of the event, which began yesterday, had as its theme The third improvement of the National Education System, concretion in the Government Management System based on Science, Technology and Innovation, by Silvia Navarro Quintero, director of the Central Institute of Pedagogical Sciences.
Navarro Quintero expressed that "at every historical moment, the Cuban educational system has been considered through its continuous improvement, in response to social intelligence".
The directive added that "the transformation process generated in the context of the third improvement of the national education system, by the curricular conception that is implemented, finds a handhold in the government management based on science, technology and innovation".
The event, which will be held until June 19, with the presence of more than 300 delegates from 15 countries at the Havana Convention Palace, will also be held in virtual mode.
Presiding over the inaugural event were PCC Central Committee member and head of the Department of Attention to the Social Sector, Susely Morfa; Deputy Prime Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, Inés María Chapman Waugh and Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella; Minister of Education, Naima Trujillo Barreto; President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, Osvaldo Vento Montiller; and President of the Council of Academics and Researchers of Latin America, Orlando Terre Camacho.
