Asunción.-An intense storm threatened to dilute the celebrations in this city, but not even that could prevent the delegation from continuing to widen, from athletics, its golden path in the 2nd Pan American Junior Games.
With a cry of liberation, the one that allows the release of all the accumulated adrenaline, the decathlonist Josmi Sanchez said goodbye to the Paraguayan Olympic Park stadium, thanks to his enormous effort came one of the two Cuban titles of the day, which began to be forged a day earlier, under very different conditions to those of this Tuesday, which were close to forcing the postponement of the program.
Josmi was able to overcome any setback to score the 7,550 points that replaced the old top score for the competition. And although only in the 110m hurdles (14.45 seconds) he managed to beat a personal best, his performance was so stable that it was enough to relegate the Venezuelan Carlos Córdoba (7 393) and the Chilean Max Moraga (7 304) to the remaining places on the podium.
"I always said that I came to win the gold and not a medal of another color. Mission accomplished, here we are for the people, for my country, for my sport," he said, shortly after the exhausting final race of 1,500 meters.
Earlier, another Cuban-flavored scepter had arrived, through long jumper Aniel Molina, unreachable from his second jump of 7.95 meters. Although his expectations were not met, there was no shortage of desire to do better - hence the number of fouls and the number of fouls.
-This was commendable considering the difficult circumstances imposed by the cold and the constant rain.
In addition to the two awards, there were other outstanding performances of the day, such as the excellent performance of Jocelyn Echazábal (12.95 seconds) in the 100-meter hurdles, which, in addition to improving her personal best and setting a new record for the event, left the certainty that Cuban athletics still has a lot to show in this event.
