In these times, marked by Zionist barbarism in Palestine and Lebanon, in the face of the complicity of a world governed by the representatives of a decadent system, the imperishable image of the leader of the Palestinian people, Yasser Arafat, is present.
Mohamed Yasser Abdel Rahman Abdel Rauf Arafat al Qudwa al Huseini, better known as Yasser Arafat, born in Cairo, Egypt, on August 24, 1929, was the first president of the Palestinian National Authority, and led the struggle to demand the right to self-determination for that people. A great friend of Fidel and the people of Cuba, his militancy and political leadership against the illegal occupation and the crimes committed by Israel against that population marked an era of heroic firmness.
He chaired the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and was the leader of the secular political party Fatah, which he founded in 1959. In 1994 he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his participation in the negotiations held a year earlier in Oslo, Norway, with the aim of offering a permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
His death on November 11, 2004, at the age of 74, took place in a hospital near Paris, France, under strange circumstances.
According to statements by Tawfik Tirawi, head of the Palestinian committee appointed to investigate his death, Israel bears sole responsibility for the assassination of the Palestinian leader.
The results of the investigation showed the presence of traces of polonium-210 (radioactive material) in his clothes and personal belongings.
Arafat continues today as a symbol of Palestinian rights and courage. His preaching and his example are a springboard to continue the struggle for the liberation of this people from the Zionist yoke.
