First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez went on Saturday to the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Cuba to sign the Book of Condolences for the death of comrade Tran Duc Luong.
After being welcomed at the portico of the diplomatic headquarters by the ambassador of the brother country, comrade Le Quang Long, the president paid tribute of silence before the portrait and the offerings deposited in tribute to the prominent politician, president of Vietnam between 1997 and 2006.
“The physical loss of our dear comrade Tran Duc Luong is a regrettable event and a source of sorrow for the peoples of Cuba and Vietnam,” the president wrote.
“History -he stressed- will forever keep his example and contribution to the process of renewal for the prosperity of the Vietnamese people, and his contribution to the strengthening of our historic and special brotherly relations.
“In this moment of deep sorrow -he wrote- we convey our deepest condolences and solidarity to the Vietnamese Party, government and people, and we extend them to the family, friends and relatives of comrade Luong”.
After paying tribute to the dear friend, Díaz-Canel spoke with Ambassador Le Quang Long, who was accompanied by other representatives of the diplomatic headquarters.
The Cuban leader praised the ties between the two socialist countries, the strengthening of relations and the work currently being developed in many joint projects.
Ambassador Le Quang Long thanked the president for his visit to the Embassy to sign the Book of Condolences for the death of comrade Tran Duc Luong. He stressed that it was a demonstration, once again, of the exemplary, special relations between Vietnam and Cuba.
Together with the president, member of the Political Bureau and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, and member of the Central Committee and head of the International Relations Department Emilio Lozada García signed the Book of Condolences.
