Beijing.–The Cuban people's admiration for China's history and current affairs was conveyed by the First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who, a few hours after arriving in the capital, went to Tiananmen Square, where he participated, the main ceremony and military parade on September 3 to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
In a tweet upon his arrival, the Head of State conveyed his gratitude to the Party, Government, and people of China for their solidarity and decisive cooperation with the Greater Antilles, and in the fight against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the U.S. government.
At 9:00 a.m. local time, the commemorative ceremony and military parade of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) began, demonstrating its power and modernity, but also its commitment to peace and human development.
This was one of the challenges addressed in the keynote speech given by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China, who recalled, in reference to the victory over Japanese aggression and in the global anti-fascist war in September 1945, the Chinese people made an enormous sacrifice and contribution to the salvation of human civilization and the defense of world peace.
The President of the Central Military Commission also praised the ongoing role of the PLA, which he ordered to become a world-class force, preserve the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of the nation, continue to provide strategic support for the country's development, and contribute even more to global peace and development.
Xi Jinping said that China will continue to adhere to the path of peaceful development, while warning that human civilization is once again facing the dilemma of “peace or war,” “dialogue or confrontation,” and “win-win or zero-sum.”
The Chinese people, he said, will stand firm on the right side of history and human progress, adhere to the path of peaceful development, and work with the rest of the world to build a community with a shared future.
The commemoration was attended by dozens of heads of state and government, who took their places on the podium in Tiananmen Square, where Xi Jinping was flanked by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
