"The close friendship between China and Cuba shows the most expeditious and effective path to peace and development through cooperation between a great power and a small nation. Together we can show the unlimited strength of the identification of two genuine revolutions and the profound value of mutual solidarity."
This was stated by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, at the ceremony commemorating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cuba and the People's Republic of China, and the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949.
The celebration was also presided over by Comrade Hua Xin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Cuba, and was attended by members of the Political Bureau, the Secretariat of the Central Committee, leaders of the Party, the National Assembly, the Government, the UJC, mass organizations, the FAR, the Minint, and the ICAP.
In the main speech of the commemoration, the Cuban president stressed that the special relations between Cuba and China "have deep historical roots, are based on similar purposes and ideals, and have been accompanied by the personal attention, guidance, and high priority given by the top leaders of both countries, from the historical generation to the present, with inter-party ties as the cornerstone."
At the beginning of his speech, and on behalf of the Cuban people, Party, and government, Díaz-Canel conveyed "the warmest congratulations to several generations of Cubans and Chinese, whose precious legacy has stood the test of time and geographical distance."
"As Commander-in-Chief Fidel said, 'We practice our solidarity with deeds, not with fine words,'" said Comrade Hua Xin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the island, in his opening speech at the commemorative event.
"Over the past 65 years," he said, "Chinese-Cuban ties have become a model of solidarity and cooperation between socialist countries and of sincere mutual assistance between developing nations."
The diplomat expressed his "sincere gratitude to the Cuban Party, government, and people for this special and friendly gesture" of celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba and the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
