The president of the National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, announced in a regular session that the Greater Caribbean Parliamentary Meeting will be held in the coming days to declare the Caribbean territory a Zone of Peace.
According to Telesur, the event, which seeks to strengthen sovereignty and peace in the region, is the result of the work of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, presented by the second vice president of the AN, América Pérez.
The President of the Venezuelan legislature stressed that the meeting will be a response to the need for active defense of peace, stating that "it is not enough to proclaim ourselves as peaceful beings," but that it is crucial to prepare to protect it.
