"The United States has been pressuring governments in various parts of the world to end bilateral healthcare programs with Cuba," denounced Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, on Wednesday afternoon.
The immediate effects of this policy of international blackmail translate into restricted access to healthcare for thousands of people in diverse communities across several continents, who are being treated selflessly by Cuban specialists, he noted.
According to the diplomat, the United States is "now pressuring those same governments and many others, including allies, to change their traditional stance against the economic blockade at the United Nations and even to refuse to discuss such an important issue."
These attempts to sabotage the Cuban people's internationalist medical collaboration are in addition to the pressure "demonstrably successful on all governments to comply with the ban issued in Washington on exporting fuel to Cuba," he said.
"Thus, with the apparent consent of most governments, he is designing a new international order of unlikely sustainability," the complaint continues.
At the end of January of this year, the United States imposed an oil embargo on Cuba, part of a policy of intensifying the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that successive U.S. administrations have maintained against the island for almost seven decades.
Through executive orders, such as those issued on January 29th and May 1st of this year, and through coercion via their embassies, President Donald Trump and his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, are pursuing the suffocation and humiliation of the Cuban people, as well as the fall—unsuccessfully sought by themselves and their predecessors—of the Revolution.
