In order to support the Cuban educational system in the midst of the current circumstances of economic and energy siege, various groups and self-organized communities from the continent of the Americas and Europe coordinated in Operation Cuba Va, in order to guarantee supplies for one hundred schools in the largest of the Antilles.
According to what the organizers of the initiative told this newspaper, the kits contain pens, erasers, writing and colored pencils, crayons, rulers, modeling clay, watercolors, chalk, sheets of paper and sports utensils.
In addition, they attested that they are already in the hands of the Cuban Ministry of Education and will be delivered to hundreds of schools when the next school year begins.
According to the accountability document related to the solidarity operation – to which Granma had access – these groups and communities, which work under the flag of brotherhood with the Cuban people, reside in Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela, Belgium, Italy, the United States and Canada.
The money collected, already converted into donations for Cuban schools, amounted to $20,000, of which more than half was managed by groups from Chile, the report details.
Such support does not only represent a material contribution to schools; It also constitutes a message of hope, dignity and confidence in the ability of people to accompany each other in times of adversity, the organizers highlighted.
"Operation Cuba Va made it possible to mobilize resources to support one hundred primary and secondary schools in the context of the centenary of Commander Fidel Castro, reaffirming the value of education as a fundamental human right and as a social achievement that must be protected against any attempt at economic asphyxiation or exclusion," they insisted.
In turn, they added, this type of gesture confirms that the defense of education, sovereignty and dignity of people continues to be a cause shared by thousands of people around the world.
As detailed in the report developed by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, corresponding to the period between March 2024 and May 2025, the blockade imposed by the US Government has a profound and multifaceted impact on the production of teaching materials in the national territory, seriously affecting the quality and development of the educational system at all levels.
Due to U.S. persecution, "commercial operations were restricted and access to international credit was limited for the acquisition of raw materials and other resources used in the production of educational media. In the sector, the effects of the blockade in the period are estimated at 89,771,200 USD," the official document states.
