As the year draws to a close, Cubans are recalling with pride all that their small island country has accomplished internationally this year, despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
Cuba has participated in several international events including the CELAC-China Forum in Brazil, the G77 + China Summit in Bolivia, the 3rd UN International Conference on Small Developing Island States in Apia, Samoa, and the Ibero-American Summit in Mexico, among others.
Visiting the country have been heads of state and government, vice presidents and chancellors from every corner of the world, reflecting the strengthening of the country's international relations.
Havana has hosted important summits, that of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in January, as well as those of the Community of Caribbean States (CARICOM) and the Bolivarian Alliance for the People's of Our America (Alba-TCP) extraordinary summit to address the Ebola epidemic, toward the end of 2014, confirming Cuba's role as a regional leader.
Finally in December, the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with the United States was announced, and Fidel's 2001 promise that the five Cuban heroes, unjustly imprisoned in that country, would return home was fulfilled.
