On March 29, Cuban Osleni Guerrero secured a relatively easy victory to win the Giraldilla Tournament of Havana, which will contribute to his positioning in the badminton world ranking.
Guerrero, competition favorite, had no difficulty in securing the gold medal defeating second ranked of the event, Howard Shu from the United States, 21-15 and 21-8, in just under 35 minutes.
Thus the Cuban becomes number one racket in the Americas, opening the door to his debut in the Olympic Games in Río de Janeiro, 2016, his ultimate dream.
Earlier, Peruvians Mario Cuba and Katherine Winder took gold in the mixed doubles after a no-show from the Turkish team of Ramazan Ozturk and Neslihan Kilic.
Meanwhile, Ebru Tunali, also from Turkey, won the women’s final, defeating Hungarian, Laura Sarosi, in two sets (21-16 and 21-16) in just 40 minutes.
