The guarantee of equality of conditions for the circulation of the biographies of candidates to the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power is one of the features of the Cuban electoral process, with partial elections taking place across the country on April 19.
Photographs and biographies of the 27,379 proposed candidates have already been made available to the population, posted in public assembly spaces, allowing every individual with the right to vote to decide who to vote for, in accordance with the candidates’ merits and ability to best represent the rights of citizens.
Election campaigns do not take place in Cuba, as it is the people who propose candidates, Alina Balseiro, president of the National Electoral Commission (CEN), has emphasized on various occasions.
On April 19 the first round of voting will take place across 24,646 polling stations.
More than eight million Cubans will exercise their right to vote, 63,400 of which will do so for the first time.
