José Ramón Machado Ventura, Communist Party leader and a vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers addressed the Havana Provincial Assembly of Cuba’s Young Communists League, meeting in the Cojimar Convention Center, and noted that, during his participation in a number of such meetings, he had been impressed by the commitment and political clarity of young people in attendance.

Several delegates referred to changes underway in the organization and the renewed focus on developing values among youth; defending the Revolution’s accomplishments; confronting ideological subversion and social indiscipline; promoting the productive use of information technology; and participating in the updating of Cuba’s economic model.

Representatives from the province to the UJC 10th Congress, as well as members of a new provincial leadership body were elected, while first secretary Yuniel Báez Pedrera was reelected to lead the organization in Havana.

Also attending were Mercedes López Acea, head of the Party in Havana; Yuniasky Crespo Baquero, UJC national secretary; and Marta Hernández Romero, president of the Havana Provincial Assembly of People’s Power.
