First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), on Wednesday morning.

During the cordial meeting, the senior United Nations official expressed satisfaction on being able to accompany Cuba through the process of updating its economic model and confirmed the willingness of ECLAC to continue providing all possible assistance. The two also addressed issues of mutual interest regarding regional cooperation, in which Cuba maintains a leading role.

Accompanying the distinguished visitor were Hugo Eduardo Beteta, chief of the ECLAC Subregional Office in Mexico, and Raúl García-Buchaca, chief of the ECLAC Division of Programme Planning and Operations.

On the Cuban side were Ileana Núñez Mordoche, acting minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, and William Díaz Menéndez, acting director of International Economic Organizations of the same ministry.
