
The 500 delegates and some one hundred guests participating in the 10th Congress of the Cuban Young Communist League (UJC) arrived in Havana on Thursday July 16, ready to begin activities and certain that the event will provide an opportunity to exchange regarding their main concerns.
Sarami Bueno Cuní, delegate for Pinar del Río and a student, expressed her intention to “bring the feelings of young people from Pinar del Río to this conference. We are proud to be representing the students of the University of Pedagogical Sciences of Pinar del Río, and to be able, in this space, to raise concerns, approaches and strategies that we have, on the path to achieving a strengthened and engaged youth.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Raima Peralta Castellanos, delegate representing the Cuban medical brigade that returned from Venezuela, said they have arrived with high expectations, and are eager to share, “We come with the intention of transmitting all our experiences, demonstrating our work methods there, our means and strategies for achieving more positive results daily, and the value of Cuban doctors in general, and the role that we have played.”

Josiel Barrios Cossio, delegate for Havana noted that he believes their fundamental role is to represent those who have placed their trust in them, “On behalf of the Higher Institute of Technologies and Applied Sciences (Instec), I hope to contribute, in my role as delegate, to the formation of an increasingly strong and revolutionary society.”
“The program of this 10th Congress raises issues that are evidence of the main concerns and interests of today's youth. I believe it will be a space for debate and exchange and contribute to the growth and strengthening of Cuban youth,” Omery Hernández Sagó, delegate for Mayabeque, added.

At the close of the welcoming and first official activity of the Congress, delegates gathered at Havana’s Convention Center were given copies of the recently released book, Raúl Castro: Un hombre en Revolución (Raul Castro: A man in Revolution) by Russian writer Nikolai S. Leonov.
Today the agenda includes a tribute to those who took part in the attack on the Moncada Barracks and the Granma expedition, as well as a series of lectures on the political and ideological subversion policy of the U.S. toward our country; Cuba’s plans regarding development and access to new technologies; mechanisms to ensure continued learning and job placements for adolescents and young people, in line with economic demands; and the ongoing implementation of the guidelines of the Sixth Congress of the PCC.
The evening will also see a performance by Augusto Enrique and the National Symphony Orchestra, at the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theatre.
