Numerous activities have been planned by the Young Communist League (UJC) across the country to mark International Youth Day, celebrated worldwide on August 12 since 2000, together with the 89th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, Roberto Conde Silverio, a member of the UJC National Bureau informed.

At a press conference, it was announced that the UJC will kick off the celebrations, together with staff from the newspaper Juventud Rebelde, who will present a photographic exhibition at the Jose Marti Memorial on August 10 to mark the two dates as well as the 50th anniversary of the publication.

In addition, members of the Hermanos Saíz Association will climb Pico Turquino, Cuba’s highest peak, from August 11-15, a photographic contest “Jóvenes en el Lente” sponsored by the Center for the Study of Youth will be held, and on the 12th itself, in the Salón de Mayo in Havana’s Pabellón Cuba, the book Razones para luchar y vencer published by Casa Editoral Abril will be presented.

Conde Silveiro also noted that a concert will take place on the same day at the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribunal starting at 10 pm. The annual camping trip at the Birán Historic Site in Holguin, to mark Fidel’s birthday, will again take place.

He added that the northeastern province of Holguin will host the major activities for International Youth Day, and that the book Raúl Castro, un hombre en Revolución, by NikolaiLeonov.will be presented there.

On August 13 at two in the afternoon a Children's Carnival at the Ciudad Deportiva in the capital will take place, while at the same time the Pabellón Cuba will screen Elpidio Valdés iconic Cuban cartoon films.An hour later,there will be a“DialogueofGenerations”at the AlmaMater library.

All these activities, Conde Silveiro stressed, are being undertaken in the midst of the process of implementing the agreements of the UJC’s 10th Congress, held July 17-19.
