La Habana.— Strengthening its work in communities and expanding opportunities for dialogue are current challenges for the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), according to Teresa Amarelle Boué, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and secretary general of the organization.

During a press conference, Amarelle emphasized the importance of the neighborhood-family link and those between different age groups, to allow for dialogue regarding concerns and suggestions.

Communicating regarding the opportunities for women in the country, and exchanging experiences concerning economic, physical and sexual autonomy are essential objectives of the organization, she added.

Amarelle also commented that, as part of celebrations for the 55th anniversary of the FMC, on August 20 a dialogue will take place using social networks regarding the challenges Cuba faces to ensure complete equality between the sexes, and on plans, projects and measures that are being implemented to this end.

She referred to aspects of patriarchy that persist in the country and psychological violence against women, subjects addressed in courses offered at the FMC’s Neighborhood Guidance Centers for Women and Families, across the country.

She added that “The FMC is a great work of the Revolution, led by our heroine Vilma Espín, who always advocated the full development of human beings and for all members will continue to be our eternal president.”
