Upon his arrival In Havana for an official four day visit, yesterday September 9, President Juan Carlos Varela said that Panama is seeking to strengthen its relations with the government and people of Cuba.

Varela was received at José Martí International Airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Teresita González Fraga and told the press that his first visit to the island would include discussions on a migratory agreement, as well as bilateral trade and cooperation, among other issues.

He expressed his desire to continue political dialogue directed toward mutual benefit, in the positive context established with Cuba’s participation in the Summit of the Americas, held in Panama this past April.

The Panamanian President’s official schedule begins today with the ceremonial placement of a floral wreath at the José Martí Memorial, followed by official talks with Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz.

Among other activities, Varela will visit the Solidarity with Panama Special Education School, and meet with Panamanian students at Havana’s Latin America School of Medicine.

Accompanying Varela is a delegation which includes a number of business people and government authorities
