Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela announced, yesterday September 10 in Havana, the signing of a migratory agreement between his country and Cuba.
In a statement to the press, he described the agreement as significant saying he felt it would “help a great deal and allow this closeness between the people of Cuba and the people of Panama to be reinforced.”
According to the Panamanian government’s website, the accord will allow the two countries to exchange security information for the prevention of irregular migration, trafficking in persons and other illicit activities.
The document was signed by Mario Méndez Mayedo, Cuba’s director of Information, Immigration and Alien Affairs and Javier Carrillo, director of Panama’s National Migration Service.
