According to information from the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology, in the last hours Hurricane Joaquin has continued to gain in intensity, reaching category three on the Saffir-Simpson Scale, with sustained winds of 205km/hour, west-southeast bound that will continue over the next 12 hours, with the likelihood of a change in direction near the west and the possibility of further intensifying.
Of interest to our country, due to the intensity of this event, are the associated rains which could be heavy and intense from the afternoon of Thursday in mountainous regions and localities in the central and eastern provinces. Attention should also be paid to the rough waters that may result on both coasts of these regions, with risks for the lowlands and navigation.
Given this situation, it was decided to establish the Briefing Phase for the provinces from Ciego de Ávila to Guantánamo from 15:00 hours today, October 1. State bodies and agencies, economic entities and social institutions of the eastern and central provinces, should be alert to the information provided by the Institute of Meteorology on the development of this phenomenon and take appropriate measures in accordance with the specific situation.
