GUANTÁNAMO.— Support in Cuba for the return of the territory illegally occupied by the Guantánamo Naval Base located in Caimanera, will be the main focus of the IVInternational Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases, held in this city from November 22-25.

The event is organized by the World Peace Council (WPC) and Cuban Movement for Peace and Sovereignty of the peoples (Movpaz), in coordination with the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

The official opening of the Seminar will take place on Monday, November 23, in the theatre of the Provincial Assembly of Peoples Power. The event will include, among other activities, special speeches by the President of the World Peace Council, María do Socorro Gomes from Brazil, and the conference on the Current Situation of Military Bases in the World, by Dr. Manuel Car­bo­nell, Movpaz collaborator.

Scheduled for Tuesday 24, are work groups which will carry out their tasks in the halls of the Mariana Grajales Plaza de la Revolución, while delegates will visit Committees for the Defense of the Revolution in the city during the evening, stated Ana Teresa Nápoles, ICAP delegate in Guantánamo.

The final day, November 25, will see the presentation of the book La fruta que no cayó, by Ángel Jiménez González and René González Barrios, which addresses U.S. intervention in Cuba; followed by a visit to the town of Caimanera, where the final declaration of the event will be read during a public act.

José Francisco Piedra, Movpaz representative, commented to Granma that so far more than 100 people from various countries are confirmed to participate.

Prior to the Seminar, on November 20 and 21, the halls of the Mariana GrajalesPlaza de la Revolución will host a meeting of the World Peace Council Executive Committee.
