Cuba’s easternmost provinces have been on alert since January 10, when the National Seismological Service (SSNC) registered an earthquake of 3.2 on the Richter scale in Santiago de Cuba. The latest report from the SSNC indicates that a 4.3 magnitude, 50km deep quake occurred south-west of the city of Santiago de Cuba, yesterday, January 21.

Perceptibility was noted in the municipalities of Santiago de Cuba, San Luis and Guamá in the province of Santiago de Cuba; Caimanera municipality in Guantánamo province; in the municipalities of Bayamo and Buey Arriba, Granma province; as well as Cueto in the province of Holguín.

Citizens have been following security measures as instructed by the National Civil Defense, and no human or material damages have been reported thus far.
