On Monday, March 14, Ricardo Cabrisas, a Council of Ministers vice president and Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Pirkko Hämäläinen, signed an agreement restructuring Cuba’s debt with the European country.
According to a press release, during the meeting both parties held productive discussions regarding the positive state of bilateral relations and their prospects for development.
Both agreed that the implementation of the agreement to restructure Cuba’s debt, under the terms of the deal reached with the Paris Club ad hoc group, represents an important contribution to the development of economic, commercial and financial ties between the two countries.
Hämäläinen was accompanied by Finland’s Ambassador to Mexico and Cuba, Roy Ericksson, as well as other representatives from the country’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Participating on the Cuban side were Isaac Hernández, director of the Central Bank of Cuba; Aleida González, vice president of the National Bank of Cuba; and Yamila Fernández, director general of Economy at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment.
Also present were Elio Rodríguez, Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs director for Europe and Canada, and Manuel Pírez, head of the institution’s International Law department.
