The isle of Youth.- A meeting between Cuban University students from the Isle of Youth Special Municipality and young Germans, members of the Tamara Bunke Cuba-Germany Solidarity Initiative, confirmed the ties shared by the island nation and European country.
At Jesús Montané Oropesa University the young visitors spoke about the current situation in Germany and expressed interest in learning about Cuba's reality, women’s role within the Revolution, and Cuba’s national hero José Martí.
Helena Wallbaum a member of the project stated, “Cuba is, above all, a country about which I would like to learn, about living in a non-capitalist system, I wish that Germany was a different community, a new community, I will take the reality of this nation back to my county, of its welcoming, solidary and friendly people.”
Delegation members carried out voluntary work at the University, toured historic sites such as the El Abra Museum/Farm where Cuba’s national hero stayed in 1870, met with workers at the Caolín Julio Fucik factory inaugurated by Ernesto Che Guevara, and spoke to representatives from the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
The Tamara Bunke Cuba-Germany solidarity project, hosted by the José Antonio Echeverría Higher Polytechnic Institute, emerged from the campaign for the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorists unjustly imprisoned in the United States, who are today free, however, members decided to continue the project with the aim of strengthening links between the two nations.
