Havana-. On August 4, Cuba’s Meteorology Institute (Insmet) and the Electricity Transmission Company S.A. signed a scientific and technical cooperation agreement related to climate change.
The documents were signed by Insmet President Celso Pasos and Edilberto Bolívar Esquivel, Panamanian director of hydrometeorology, who noted that the agreement seeks to promote research into climate change and weather forecasting in order to develop new applications for health, energy and food and nutritional security.
Given Cuba’s great scientific potential, Esquivel noted that his country is interested in learning and increasing the capacities of both nations in economically viable activities.
Esquivel, also Panama’s permanent representative to the World Meteorological Organization, recalled that climate change is a reality, hence the need to expand and develop knowledge across all spheres.
Pasos reiterated Cuba’s willingness to establish new lines of cooperation with Panama in the future.
The objectives of the agreement include the development of educational programs and international level research, exchanges between experts and quality control and management of hydrometeorological variables.
The signing took place at the Environmental Agency, affiliated with Cuba’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
