Today, September 9, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla will hold a press conference to present Cuba's report on Resolution 70/5 to the United Nations General Assembly, entitled the"Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba."
The meeting with the accredited press will take place within the ministry headquarters at 2:30pm, according to Cubaminrex.
The webpage www.cubavsbloqueo.cu will be offering detailed information on the report, and on actions in Cuba and around the world, set to take place over the coming weeks, to support a UN vote denouncing the aggressive U.S. policy.
Despite the U.S. President statements calling for an end to the blockade, the policy remains in full force, continuing to cause severe damage to the Cuban economy, and limiting the people's right to development.
Measures taken by the White House thus far to modify the blockade's implementation have had a limited impact, and the President has the executive authority to do a great deal more.
As the report approved last year indicates, only in the area of Public Health, the blockade has caused damages of more than 2.5 billion dollars since its inception.
It is difficult however to estimate the human impact of the policy in dollars and cents, given the effect it has had on Cuban families for over 50 years.
In October of 2015, the international community demonstrated its overwhelming rejection of the policy for the 24th time, supporting Cuba's resolution calling for its immediate end by a vote of 191 in favor.
