"With this visit, I hope to bring the two countries closer and expand traditional relations," said President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj of Mongolia, upon his arrival to Havana yesterday evening, September 14.
"Mongolia has always been a good friend of Cuba on the Asian continent," the head of state added, as he began an official visit to the island and was greeted at José Martí International Airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra.
During his stay, the dignitary will hold official talks with Army General Raúl Castro, President of the country's Councils of State and Ministers, and participate in a number of activities.
Cuba has had diplomatic relations with Mongolia for 55 years, and was the first Latin America and Caribbean country to establish ties with this nation in 1960.
Cooperation between the two nations includes projects in education, health and sports, with more than 100 Mongolian health professionals having studied in Cuba.
During his 2015 visit, Foreign Minister Liundeg Puruvsuren noted the potential for expanding trade between the countries and the interest of Mongolian companies in making investments here.
