
On September 20, Cuba’s Hotel Nacional was officially selected as the best in the country during the 26th edition of the World Travel Awards, reports the organization’s website.
Opened December 30, 1930, the Hotel Nacional has been voted the island’s leading accommodations establishment for the sixth year in a row by the World Travel Awards, considered the Oscars of the tourist industry.
The emblematic 85 year old institution, managed by the Gran Caribe chain was chosen from among a list of other prestigious hotels including the Florida, Iberostar Parque Central, Meliá Cayo Coco and Meliá Cohiba.
The World Travel Awards are decided by a jury of experts in recognition of excellence across a broad range of categories organized by region, from hotels to travel agencies and airlines.
Winners in the resorts-spa category included Paradisus Princesa del Mar, in Varadero and Paradisus Río de Oro, in Holguín; while Jamaica was selected as the top tourist destination in the region.
