The Ministry of Foreign Relations salutes the agreement reached October 10 between the government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN), as a result of conversations held over recent months, in which Cuba participated as a guarantor.
This agreement will allow for the establishment and initiation of formal talks between the government of Colombia and the ELN, in Quito, Ecuador, on October 27, 2016, which represents another step forward in efforts to reach peace in Colombia.
The parties agreed that Cuba will be one of the countries acting as a guarantor and site of these negotiations.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations reiterates the firm commitment of Cuba to ending the armed conflict and the construction of a stable, lasting peace in Colombia, and in this context, to the achievement of a final agreement between the government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army.
