Carrying aid for the victims of Hurricane Matthew in the province of Guantánamo, the Venezuelan Navy’s AB Goajira (Tango-63) ship arrived at Santiago de Cuba’s Guillermón Moncada port on October 12.

During the welcome ceremony, Milagro Rodríguez, counselor of the Venezuelan Embassy in Cuba, speaking on behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, noted the affection and fraternity expressed through 327 tons of equipment and various materials that will contribute to restoring damaged areas.

She thanked ship Captain Leonardo Castellanos, and stressed that no natural event or otherwise would destroy the ties of solidarity between the Cuban and Venezuelan peoples.

Meanwhile, Nancy Acosta, president of the government in the territory of Guantánamo, speaking on behalf of the Cuban people and especially those of Guantánamo, expressed gratitude to the Venezuelans and reiterated that it is in the most difficult times that one discovers their true friends.

She stressed the dignity, humility and patriotism of those who will benefit from these donations, which will be distributed immediately in response to the enormous damage caused by Matthew, primarily in the municipalities of Baracoa and Maisí.

The shipment included machinery, cranes, dump trucks, tanker trucks, backhoes, skid-steer loaders, forklifts, a wet concrete plant, cement silos, a sand sieve, an automated control center and some 20 thousand square meters of roofing.
