CIEGO DE ÁVILA.—On December 6, Cuban experts began an exchange of experiences and lines of work relating to the protection of the ozone layer, given the damage caused by ultraviolet radiation to life on Earth.

The event will run through December 10 at the Tryp Cayo Coco Hotel, located in the tourist resort of Jardines del Rey, north of Ciego de Ávila, with delegates from all provinces of the island.

Yeinic Cruz, a specialist from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in this territory, noted among the main themes measures to eliminate the use of substances harmful to the ozone layer.

The depletion of this region of the stratosphere affects plants, animals and ecosystems in general, causes huge damage to human health and contributes to global warming.

Since the adoption of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer in 1985, Cuba has been implementing measures to reduce the production and use of chlorofluorocarbons, which are primarily responsible for ozone depletion.

Ciego de Ávila has seen efforts to eliminate substances harmful to the environmental and an increase in tree planting.
