GUANTÁNAMO.—The UN’s International Organization for Migration donated mattresses and roof sheeting for those affected by Hurricane Matthew in this province.
The aid package includes 820 single-person foam mattresses, which were received yesterday, January 10, by provincial authorities, and 2,840 sheets of galvanized steel roofing, which should arrive before the end of the month.

Speaking to Granma Alina Tames, Provincial Assembly of People’s Power representative responsible for international cooperation projects and donations, noted that the resources will shortly be distributed to families in need.

According to Sonia Karacadze Díaz, representative for the UN’s International Organization for Migration representative in Cuba, the body, along with other UN organizations is working on mobilizing funds to continue providing support to affected municipalities.

To date, Guantánamo has received around one hundred donations to help repair the damage caused by the hurricane, 86 of which were made by other provinces in the country, three by state enterprises, and almost all the rest by international organizations.
