HAVANA.–The Center for Research and Development of Medicines (Cidem), belonging to the BioCubaFarma business group, has a total of 48 research projects underway to develop further products for human use.
Speaking to the Cuban News Agency, Dr. Orlando Perdomo, Cidem director of Research and Development, explained that the Center’s portfolio of research projects includes innovative new chemical, medicine and molecular lines.
He added that the Center possesses therapeutic formulas, known as super generic drugs, an improved version of conventional medicines, and that its innovative medicines include generic, natural and health related products.
The institution developed the first effervescent chlorine tablets for water disinfection, a technology used for the first time in Cuba, with high effectiveness for the purification of this crucial liquid, the specialist emphasized.
Perdomo announced that investment is planned to increase the production of the current plant six times over, and a larger plant is to be built in the Mariel Special Development Zone.
