
HAVANA.— On January 18, authorities from Cuba and the U.S. signed a Twinning Agreement between the Ciénaga de Zapata National Park, located in the Cuban province of Matanzas, and the Everglades National Park in the state of Florida, at the State Department headquarters in Washington. The agreement seeks to contribute to the improvement of the environmental management of these areas.
According a press release from the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the purpose of this twinning is to achieve better environmental management indicators in these protected areas, through the exchange of information.
José Ramón Cabañas, Cuban ambassador to the U.S., signed the agreement that will promote modern practices for the sustainable management of resources and scientific knowledge in this area.
Pedro Ramos, superintendent of the Everglades National Park, signed the agreement on behalf of the U.S.
The agreement was adopted in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on Wildlife Conservation and Protected National Areas, signed on December 21, 2016, also in Washington.
