On the morning of November 25, Party Political Bureau member and First Vice President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez, exercised his right to vote in Electoral Commission number 3 of circumscription 57, in the Havana municipality of Playa.
Speaking to the press Diaz-Canel stated that today’s election process is charged with emotion, especially for revolutionaries, following commemorations yesterday marking the first anniversary of the passing of Comandante Fidel Castro.
“Not only are we voting for the best from among good people, but we are also voting for the Revolution, the homeland, socialism and above all for the nation to which we aspire. On a day like today, I am thinking about Fidel. It’s an unforgettable and important day which is about more than just voting, it’s also one of emotions and a moment to recall the mark left by Fidel,” he stated.
The First Vice President commented on the gala held last night, November 25, at the University of Havana where, he was happy to note, he spoke with Cuban youth who expressed their commitment to defending Fidel’s legacy.
“When I left I knew that today we would see a massive response from the people, because citizens are also coming out in honor of Fidel. He explained that this is the system we must defend, which doesn’t mean that we no longer have to perfect and revitalize it. The delegates we are voting for today, are the individuals that we must defend and support, and help to ensure greater effectiveness with regard to administrations, community work, participation and problem solving,” added Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez.
