OFFICIAL VOICE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA CENTRAL COMMITTEE

MATANZAS.–More than 4,300 families have recovered their homes after the passage of Hurricane Irma through this territory in September 2017, which particularly impacted the provincial capital and the municipalities of Martí and Cárdenas.

These homes represent approximately 70% of the affected properties in the province, reported Iván Castro Rodríguez, vice president of the Matanzas Administration Council, who added that before the end of February all cases of total or partial damage to roofing should be repaired.

He explained that to gradually resolve the needs of each affected family, local manufacturing of construction materials has been key, as although the province received zinc roofing tiles and fiber cement from other areas, the largest volume of resources were produced within the territory itself, such as the different types of sand and gravel, cement blocks, floors, water tanks, carpentry, beams and slabs.

At present, all municipalities have the necessary resources and all that remains is to strengthen organizational details and speed up actions with the help of all those involved, he noted.

Teresa Rojas Monzón, first secretary of the Party Provincial Committee, stressed that 100% of the 409 cases of the complete collapse of homes will be resolved before next September, and that the new homes will have more solid and resistant roofing.

To date, 63 cases of total collapse have been resolved, just over 90 are in the final construction phase and works on the rest have already started.
