It is the duty of the Federation of Secondary School Students (FEEM), as a student organization forged in the heat of the Revolution, to continue training the new generations drawing on Che’s idea of the New Man and his work ethic.
This according to FEEM President Leidy Laura Jiménez, speaking during a plenary session of the organization’s National Council held in Havana May 26-27, who also highlighted actions being undertaken in every educational center to strengthen student’s connection to their country and its history.
In this sense, Jiménez mentioned vocational training and career guidance, in particular pedagogical occupations, a popular option among FEEM leaders across all levels.
Melisa Morales Delgado, FEEM president in Camagüey, noted that the times demand young people be increasingly better prepared and protagonists of the teaching-learning process.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, minister of Education highlighted the importance of teachers as a vital sources of motivation for students, noting that despite efforts to date, the number of students who go on to study pedagogy at the university level remains low.
“If we don’t emphasize the role of teachers in society, in educating our children, you as students, then no one else will,” added Olga Lidia Tapia, a member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat.
