SEGUNDO FRENTE, Santiago de Cuba.— Army General Raúl Castro Ruz congratulated residents of Segundo Frente (Second Front) municipality, in the mountains of Santiago de Cuba, for their advances, in a moving provincial act to mark the 65th anniversary of the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons.
As promised several weeks ago, the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee presided the celebrations this July 25, under a dense fog, and received a warm welcome from residents. It was here where Raúl founded the Frank País Second Front, during the guerilla struggle.
Raúl recognized the leading role of Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, member of the Party Central Committee, a vice president of the Council of State and president of the Provincial Assembly. He stressed that she was a great example of the essential role of women in the Revolution.
He also recalled that on the constitution of the new National Assembly on April 19, he stressed that efforts would continue to ensure that all levels of leadership and government accurately reflected the Cuban population.

Meanwhile, Johnson Urrutia highlighted the commitment of residents to the heroes and martyrs whose remains lie in the Frank País Second Front Mausoleum, and to transform the municipality into an example of economic and social progress, with works to improve the quality of life of all.
Party First Secretary in the municipality, Roger Pérez Matos, reported on the 65 works that have been completed here, 14 in the agricultural sector, a modern hotel, a fish farm, a sandpaper and an ice cream factory, over 400 homes, a pre-school day care center, a restaurant, club and cafeteria complex, and repairs to health facilities.
Member of the Party Central Committee and First Secretary in the province, Lázaro Expósito Canto, alongside Beatriz Johnson, presented political and administrative leaders of the nine municipalities of Santiago de Cuba with recognitions for their arduous efforts.
The event also saw a range of performances, including traditional songs to commemorate July 26, and local dance groups.

One of those attending the event, Raúl Moraga Núñez, told reporters that he was born here, but has lived and worked in Sancti Spíritus for the past 30 years: “I came to visit my family and have discovered so many positive changes and this beautiful act with Raúl, which fill me with pride.”
Ángel Leonides López González, who served as president of the municipal government between 1979 and 1989, expressed similar thoughts: “Look, we also held great acts with Raúl, but this people is tireless, each day it is more beautiful, with greater development, and today also shows that it is more patriotic and revolutionary.”
