With the President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, in attendance, Eusebio Leal Spengler received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in International Relations, granted by the Raúl Roa Kourí Higher Institute of International Relations.
“With his revolutionary devotion, his unique combination of elegance and firm principles, he has broken all stereotypes... The classic caricature of the primitive, simple, dogmatic Cuban official that our enemies have continuously circulated is dissolved as if by magic wherever he is present.”
With these words, Abel Prieto Jiménez, director of the Martí Program Office, described the honoree during a ceremony held at Martí Theater.
Leal, who has been awarded many distinctions throughout his long career, was recognized for his unwavering commitment to his city, to his country, which have made Havana´s City Historian an admirable man among his fellows, Prieto said.
Also present during the awards ceremony were Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of Popular Power; Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs; José Ramón Saborido Loidi, Minister of Higher Education; and Isabel Allende Karam, Rector of the Higher Institute of International Relations.
