It’s a big event in Cuba - the first day of school. This year September 2 is no exception.

Educational centers across the country are being inundated by millions of excited children, adolescents, and youth, as the 2019-2020 academic year begins.

With them are teachers, professors, support staff and families, because this is a process that involves all of society.

After enjoying the summer break, students at different levels are entering classrooms, confident that all material and human resources essential to their comprehensive education are on hand. A certainty that comes as a result of the constant attention of the country’s entire leadership, from the ministerial level to the neighborhood.

Ensuring the adequate condition of buildings was no simple task; long, hot days were devoted to the effort, with no detail left unattended, nothing that could affect the progress of such an important revolutionary achievement as education.

Inside homes, things were no different. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts, and uncles took care of uniforms, covered books, carefully checked backpacks, and packed suitcases for those heading to boarding schools.

All this effort is rewarded today.

Despite the economic siege the country is facing, amidst the resurgence of hostile U.S. government policies, this September 2 speaks for itself of Cuba’s determination to defend our sovereignly conquered rights.
