HOLGUÍN.— Considered a novelty in the national agricultural equipment and implement industry, self-propelled rice transporters, with a capacity of seven tons, will soon be available to producers across the country.

The July 26 Agricultural Implements plant, affiliated with the Holguin Mechanical Enterprise, has begun the assembly of the first ten models of the Zero Series, which is based on a prototype created by Cuban specialists, with the cooperation of a company in the People's Republic of China

Some 60% of components used in the transporters’ assembly are imported, including motors, pumps, and rolling parts, while the remainder are designed and fabricated onsite, including metal parts of the chassis, tanks, motor support platforms, and the continuous tracks.

Engineer Julio Gallego Torres explained that this is a unique piece of equipment, ideal for work in high humidity conditions, as is the case in Cuba, where many such trailer trucks designed for this purpose do not function well.

Among the transporter’s technological novelties are its hydrostatic systems that allow for the installation of an internal combustion engine that supports the operation of a series of hydraulic motors.

“These are machines designed to increase productivity. They will receive rice from large harvesters and transport it to vehicles waiting beside the fields. Thus the harvesters avoid interruptions which occur when they must deliver rice directly to the vehicles,” he explained.

The regular contributions of the "July 26" to the country’s rice program include the delivery of fleets of 3.5 ton self-propelled transporters, plows, and graders for land preparation and cultivation, as well as carts for a variety of purposes.
